Today’s blog post is a letter written by Jessica Cook, a model and actress who was featured on the cover for the Dec. 2011 The Look. Jessica shares with us what Mary Kay has meant for her personally and professionally.
I just wanted to say thank you for choosing me to be the cover model and commercial model for Mary Kay this year. I would have never thought in a MILLION years that I’d be the beauty model for Mary Kay and it’s such a privilege and honor to be a face of a brand that has such a good reputation where there are incredible and hardworking teams of Independent Beauty Consultants behind their products.
A few years ago, I was balancing the books for my sister-in-law’s mother, Annette Buchholz, who was and is currently a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant in Redding, CA. She told me that I should get started as a consultant and I could learn the in’s-and-out’s from her. I started selling Mary Kay and loved it. I loved the parties, the meetings and how incredibly driven the women were in making their businesses prosper. The fact that the women in the Mary Kay world actually enjoyed making women feel beautiful by enhancing their natural beauty was so refreshing and unreal. I mean, I was taught to actually take care of my customer, by teaching him/her how to use the products, follow up with him/her, and make sure s/he was happy with the product.
Furthermore, I moved to Los Angeles, California to pursue my dream of modeling and acting and was soon scouted by Monica Boselli, the founder of No Ties Management in San Diego, California. When I decided to start acting a few months ago, the first commercial I booked was the Mary Kay Compact commercial. That was the very FIRST commercial I booked. After I had booked the commercial, I told the clients that I had sold Mary Kay for a couple years and a family member was a consultant as well. They laughed. A few months later, in July, I flew to New York to shoot the new Mary Kay Nourishine Plus Lip Gloss and am now the cover girl for this month’s cover look of The Look.
I can’t even explain to you how big of an influence Mary Kay has been to me in my life. It taught me hard work, never to give up no matter how challenging life can be (in and outside your business), and to respect not only yourself, but also the others around you. Mary Kay is a team. We are all a team and we all are so fortunate to work for such a reputable brand that has been around for so many years.
I can’t tell you how happy I am to be able to be the face of such an amazing line of products. Thank you so much for everything.
