Kool & The Gang Sure Know Their Stuff
If you’re anything like me you love to celebrate… milestones like birthdays, momentous rights of passage such as a graduation or the everyday accomplishments that warrant a happy dance behind an office door. No matter the occasion, we live in a culture that celebrates the big, the small and everything in between. Lucky for me, I love a celebration… but even more, I love to *plan* a celebration. So, imagine the happy dance I did when I was asked to help plan a HUGE celebration… Mary Kay’s 50th anniversary!
That’s right… we’re FIFTY… and FABULOUS.
Visions of (golden) sugarplums started dancing in my head… my mind spinning thinking how we could possibly honor the amazing things that Mary Kay Ash has given all of us Mary Kay? I had to dig deep but then it hit me, thanks to Kool & The Gang… “bring your good times, and your laughter too.”
We selected March 8 – International Women’s Day – as our day to party. What better way to kick-off our 50th anniversary then a day that celebrates women? And party we did… in 25 countries to be exact. Because to celebrate the big 5-oh we hosted the Mary Kay® Global Makeover Day uniting women around the world to set a world record for the most number of makeovers in 24 hours. And let me tell you… rain or shine, snow or climate-controlled, we did makeovers!
In the U.S., we hosted events in New York’s snowy Times Square, at The Grove in Los Angeles on the one day it decided to rain and right here in Dallas at our beautifully climate-controlled headquarters building. Then, Mary Kay markets all over the world joined in the fun – from Moldova to Malaysia… Poland to the Philippines… Korea to Kazakhstan… Armenia to Argentina!
All said, we logged 50,000 makeovers in one day – a perfect tribute to our 50th anniversary.
I think that deserves one more shout out to Kool & The Gang… “Everyone around the world – come on!”
