Did the CMO just do the Wobble?
Mary Kay launches new products several times throughout the year. I was floored when I learned that Mary Kay was hosting a party just for the interns to learn about one of its new product lines – Mary Kay At Play. Mary Kay At Play(TM) is a color product line that is specifically designed for Gen Y. The line is packed with fun shades that my friends and I love.
When I got the official invitation for a Mary Kay At Play party, I was extremely shocked yet excited to get the opportunity to socialize with my co-workers outside of the office. I expected a nice dinner party full of work conversation and aspirations for the future and more blah, blah, blah. What I experienced was far beyond any expectation. It was a PARTY.
It was held at the uber swanky NYLO, a boutique hotel. I could not believe how trendy and upscale this place was. It was like I had just entered an exclusive party that only top notch trend setters knew about. We headed straight to the back room which evolved into what looked like a Mary Kay At Play pop-up store. The first thing I saw was our Glam Squad making over two interns with all Mary Kay At Play products. There were hors d’oeuvres, "mocktails," sweet treats everywhere, a Henna tattoo artist, a DJ and hostesses walking around with little cotton candies on a stick that they referred to as fluff pops. “WOW!” was just about the only thing I could think to say.
Mary Kay’s Chief Marketing Officer Sheryl Adkins-Green kicked off the party building excitement around the new line and looping us in on all of the fun, innovative things in store for the Mary Kay At Play future. It was great to see her dedication to this line. It was extra special to me because I had worked on the Mary Kay At Play collection all summer.
Once the DJ took over, the mix and mingle grew into a full out dance party. Who can resist the dance floor when Whitney Houston’s “I Wanna Dance with Somebody” comes on? Even if your boss’s boss’s boss is standing five feet away from you. Before we knew it Sheryl Adkins-Green was dancing with us and doing The Wobble. (Yes, that Sheryl. CMO Sheryl. Executive Sheryl. Wobble Sheryl.)
It was that moment when I realized that Mary Kay is a company where a 20-year-old intern would love the products as much as the CMO who is responsible for creating the products.
The greatest perk of working at a Mary Kay is knowing that we are enriching lives every day and providing the tools women need to empower themselves and feel confident in their own skin. Admittedly, the goodie-bag with the entire Mary Kay At Play line to walk away with was a pretty good perk, too.
Katie Bower is a junior at Texas State University in San Marcos. She is studying public relations and business. Katie’s mom, Lisa, has worked for Mary Kay for 23 years, making Katie a Mary Kay brand ambassador since birth. As you can tell, Katie is not too old to still get a kiss from her Mom.Enjoy the photos from the Mary Kay at Play launch party for the interns. Want Mary Kay At Play products for yourself?
