Okie Dokey, Smoky!
I love, love, love makeup. Did I just say that I love playing with makeup? Well, or at least I “did” several years ago before I became a Mom. I used to create different looks every morning before going to work. I loved mixing shades to come up with my own color combinations (and some of them came out pretty bad! Shhhhh, we won’t go there).
But when you become a mother, your world changes drastically. Friends and coworkers told me how much my life would change once this little bundle of joy arrived, but I thought they were not as organized as I was. I had it all under control. Just call me Super Anna. You know what I mean? Once my sweet little baby arrived, I literally had no time to take care of myself, let alone “play with makeup.” Super Anna was Super Tired.
And keep in mind, I was a full-time working Mom, so many days I had only 5 minutes to get ready and head out the door to make it to work. So, my routine became very simple and no more exciting adventures with makeup. I fell into a routine. A simple routine. Actually, it was more of a rut that I fell into. Whatever I could slap on my face in a few minutes was it. If I put on foundation, concealer, cheek color and mascara, it was a successful day.
I was lucky to snag some time with one of the makeup artists during Mary Kay’s 50th Anniversary seminar. He gave me a makeover that transformed my look with our brand new line of color products called Mary Kay At Play™. After thinking for a while about what I wanted done, I decided to make a gutsy move. I went for the smoky eyes. Yes, it was the middle of the day, but who cares. I wanted some va-va-va-voom.
Within 10 minutes he gave me beautiful, deep dark smoky eyes with the new Mary Kay At Play™ Baked Eye Trio in Tuxedo and followed on my lips with the Mary Kay At Play™ Jelly Lip Gloss in Teddy Bare. I couldn’t believe the transformation. Man, did I look beautiful that day. (I’m not making it up. People told me how great my makeup looked, so it wasn’t just my imagination!)
I was asked on numerous occasions that day to pose for close-up shots of my eyes. I was in heaven. I felt pretty and looked pretty (as you can see I’m not shy) and most importantly, I felt good about myself.
And that’s very important for any woman: to feel good about yourself in your own skin and feel like you can conquer the world. Because when you do, the rest of the world around you feels it too and you project confidence and power.
So, my friends, I learned something new that day: do not get in the rut of doing the same thing over and over and do NOT be afraid to experiment with your look. What’s the worst that can happen after all if you apply a new look and it looks bad or not exactly like that hot look you saw on Pinterest? Well, you just wash it off and re-apply all over again, right? So go ahead and “Play”! I’m now hooked on my Mary Kay At Play products. What’s your favorite? Share on!

Global Makeup Artist Team member, Diana Carreiro, says, "My most important tip is to remember, makeup is not permanent. If you don’t like the results, simply wash it off and start again. Find pictures of makeup looks that you like and try to emulate them. Test run new makeup looks when you’re at home with no plans to go out. You’ll catch glimpses of yourself now and again and become accustomed to wearing the new trend.
