Four Ways to Be "Green" this Earth Day
With seven contents, 326 million trillion gallons of water (yes, million trillion is a real number), and seven billion people, it’s no secret that the Earth is a very big place filled with amazing places and people. Personally, I hope to be able to explore everything this world has to offer. Some call it “wanderlust” but I call it living!
I know that if I want to do and see all of the great things in this world, I need to treat it with the same respect that I have for my list of places to see. Too often, we take our planet for granted. We assume that it will continue to flourish and grow no matter how we treat it. Over the past few years, I’ve become more and more aware of my “carbon footprint” and feel very fortunate to work for a company that makes environmental sustainability a priority through Mary Kay’s Pink Doing Green℠ initiative.
The best part is that anyone can make an impact and take steps to preserve this wonderful planet. Learning simple ways to be “green” is a fantastic way to start! If you can make a commitment to yourself to take some of these steps every day for one month, they will become second nature to you.
1. Find an alternative to driving – The weather right now makes this the perfect time of year to consider walking or riding a bike. Carpooling or public transportation are also great alternatives.
2. Turn off the lights when you leave a room – Not only does this help save energy, but your wallet will thank you, too for reducing your electric bill.
3. Reduce your water usage – I’m not going to say shorten your shower times (although, it does help), try reducing your water use by simply remembering to turn off the water when brushing your teeth.
4. Recycle, Recycle, Recycle!
Mary Kay continues to research the best ways to reduce our impact on the world around us. As we learn and build these new initiatives, we hope to share them with you so that you can make a positive impact in your community. Join us and together we can preserve our great planet for many generations to come!
