The Wizard of Oz has always been one of my favorite movies. Its annual airing on TV was highly anticipated in my household growing up. Kansas was always shown in black and white. But in OZ …everything was in bright vivid color. Especially that yellow brick road.

Earlier this month, I was able to meet with the inspiring group of Consultants and Directors from Mary Kay’s Asia Pacific market. Despite long travel hours, the group was packed with energy and that energy was contagious. I was still on "cloud nine" as I flew back home to Los Angeles.
It’s a special day for our Mary Kay family! May 12th marks what would have been my grandmother’s 100th birthday. What I know for sure as we celebrate her century-long legacy is that Mary Kay Ash was a woman ahead of her time, all the time. She stepped out into a man’s world in the 1960’s to blaze a new path for women and in doing so, she built a company with the progressive purpose of empowering women.
While in many countries Friday the 13th is considered an unlucky day, Mary Kay Ash never bought into those superstitions. In fact, she spent her life savings to start her Mary Kay business on Friday, Sept. 13, 1963.
As an active member of the Junior League of Dallas and a part of the Mary Kay family, the Mary Kay Women LEAD (Learn Excel Achieve Dream) Scholarship program has always been a passion of mine.

Specifically, the 1 in 3 young people who will experience abuse from a dating partner across the U.S. in this year alone.
