The Wizard of Oz has always been one of my favorite movies. Its annual airing on TV was highly anticipated in my household growing up. Kansas was always shown in black and white. But in OZ …everything was in bright vivid color. Especially that yellow brick road.
It’s a special day for our Mary Kay family! May 12th marks what would have been my grandmother’s 100th birthday. What I know for sure as we celebrate her century-long legacy is that Mary Kay Ash was a woman ahead of her time, all the time. She stepped out into a man’s world in the 1960’s to blaze a new path for women and in doing so, she built a company with the progressive purpose of empowering women.
To all the powerful, strong women who keep all of us at Mary Kay inspired every day, today is your day. In honor of International Women’s Day, I would like to acknowledge all the women who are role models and mentors in communities, both large and small, all around the world.
Before I share part 2 of “Getting into Gear”, I first want to thank all those who let me know that they found the first installment to be inspiring as they commit – or re-commit to their goals. I also appreciated some related advice folks added to the blog such as, “Know when to put the brakes on a bad situation or relationship” and “When you find that you’re lost or headed in the wrong direction, it’s okay to back up and turn around”.
As a life-long student of “Leadership”, I have always been a sponge when it comes to soaking up the wisdom of inspirational leaders, such as Mary Kay Ash. When I think about the lessons I’ve learned from many successful people shared how they elevated their game and accomplished stretch goals, they often described how they “made the shift” and the power of “making the shift”.
