The Wizard of Oz has always been one of my favorite movies. Its annual airing on TV was highly anticipated in my household growing up. Kansas was always shown in black and white. But in Oz …everything was in bright vivid color. Especially that yellow brick road.

Mary Kay often feels like Oz to me. Founded by a woman, for women, where there is no glass ceiling. There’s definitely a yellow brick road we travel together to help enrich women’s lives around the world through our business opportunity, amazing products and positive community impact.

Recently, I sat with members of our executive team on a panel to the visit with the Women Ambassadors Forum.  A distinguished group of women from around the world convened in Dallas for a week long forum and learning experience.

The Women Ambassadors Forum works with women to focus on the insecurities and hindrances women leaders often face when building a legacy of change in their respective communities. What a great opportunity for our company to share the legacy of our founder, Mary Kay Ash. For 55 years, Mary Kay’s iconic story of entrepreneurship and leadership has inspired generations of women across the globe. So many women within the corporation and within our international independent sales force base have followed Mary Kay’s trail blazing path.

Among the sessions hosted at Mary Kay Inc., I participated in a panel with the Manager of Public Affairs Theresa Flores, Chief Financial Officer Deb Gibbins, Chief Legal Officer Julia Simon and Chief Marketing Officer Sheryl Adkins-Green.

A lot of great career and life advice was shared by this panel. Here’s a list of the top 6 priorities shared with the group:

1. Get comfortable being uncomfortable. Fail forward into your success.

2. Be the captain of your own ship. Be a steward of learning and drive your own destiny.

3. Have no regrets. Learn from every experience and consider every experience an opportunity to learn

4. Feedback is a gift and mentors are everywhere. Ask for advice and implement it.

5. Get rid of the mom guilt.

6. Iron sharpens iron. You are the average of the 5 people you spend the most time with, so choose wisely.

Mary Kay Ash once said “The definition of successful people is simply ordinary people with extraordinary determination. You cannot keep determined people from success. If you place stumbling blocks in their way, they will use them for stepping-stones and climb to new heights. People who succeed have a goal, a dream and make their plans and follow them."

Enjoy these photos from the recent forum as we opened our doors to women from around the world and worked to inspire them with Mary Kay Ash's story.
