We all know the saying “it’s what’s on the inside that counts” and I wholeheartedly believe that to be true. I also believe that the clothes you wear offer another way to show others how you feel on the inside.
Empowered. Confident. Beautiful.
These impactful feelings are incredibly important to the women we help through our Suits for Shelters program. The suits and other professional attire collected through this program aren’t just articles of clothing, they’re suits of armor that build self-esteem, pride and poise. The perfect ingredients needed for a fresh start or a new job.
I’ve had the honor of leading our Suits for Shelter program the last two years as the summer intern for the Corporate Social Responsibility team. Since 2008, Mary Kay Inc. has donated more than 19,000 suits to domestic violence shelters in the DFW community – all thanks to our generous independent sales force and employees. And, this year we will add nearly 2,000 suits to our total.
Mary Kay Ash said, “while clothes may not make the woman, they certainly have a strong effect on her self-confidence which – I believe – does make the woman.” She would certainly be proud of this program and our impact that’s helped thousands of women in need.
